I almost forgot to post today; I’ve been busy consuming everything Lancer RPG! Before the week starts, I thought I would share some of my favorite mech fighting scenes (I’m obsessed with the mech stuff now). Both are from different Gundam series, and they both show two completely different styles of combat.
This first scene is from Mobile Suit Gundam: The 8th MS Team that aired back in 1996. This battle is a fan-favorite, and for a good reason. Check it out (I’m so sorry that it’s the dubbed version):
The Animation quality is top-notch. All of the mechs have a sense of weight in their movement as they crunch through the war-torn town. It’s a style of animation you rarely see these days, and it gives the mechs a “realistic” presence within the anime.
What also makes the scene stand apart from many other mech battles (you’ll see one coming up) is the tactical nature of the scenario. The Gouf (Blue Mech) has to destroy all the tanks for his mission to succeed, and you can see just how cold and calculated the Gouf pilot is. Often, Mech battles are 1v1 with a lot of drama and screaming, but this scene portrays a typical military mission.
If you’re interested in an anime that focuses on the concept of war and how war affects people, check out Mobile Suit Gundam: The 8th MS Team; it’s a short 12 episodes. If you’re a mech fan, you won’t be disappointed. Then again, if you’re a mech fan, you’ve probably already watched this series!
The next scene is a personal favorite of mine as it shows a “grunt” character going against one of the main antagonists of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. This scene is a classic 1v1 battle:
I love that fight; it’s so crisp! I think this series may still be on Netflix if you want to check that out; it’s not bad overall (I would just watch the battles if you don’t know Gundam’s history).
As I’ve repeatedly said in the last few posts, Lancer RPG is filling up all my brain space, and I’m now I’m binging everything Mech. Fortunately, or unfortunately for you, I have to share all the good stuff on here! I do hope you’re enjoying the Mech stuff I’m putting out here, I’ve been a big fan for years, and it’s nice to be able to talk about it.
Tomorrow is Sunday which means I’ll be putting out a post on inspiration. It’s going to be some more of Austin Kleon’s stuff, so I hope you look forward to that.
