——————————–THIS IS AN EMERGENCY BROADCAST———————————-
1989
On a particularly grey day, you come home from work to see a VHS tape sitting on your doorstep. It’s evening now, and the once bright grey that dominated the sky has turned into that sinister color that only the most ominous of days can portray; the tape is unmarked.
As you pick up the tape, you feel a presence from somewhere; someone is watching you. VHS in hand, you spin around only to be met with the same dull cookie-cutter homes that have always surrounded your view from your front door.
There is no one in sight.
Your keys have an unnatural shake to them as you jolt into your home and slam the door behind you. You don’t recall your home having ever felt so oppressive and claustrophobic before; is it darker in here?
Casting aside the edge of the atmosphere, you turn all the lights on, heat your microwavable dinner, and jam the tape in your VHS player before sitting down on your worn-in couch. You’ve been waiting for this video for weeks. A co-worker of yours said he met a guy who was into some new wave stuff, “Avant-garde,” he said.
Come to think of it; you haven’t seen that guy in a couple of days.
The TV snaps with static, and an image appears:

What Did I Just Watch?
That video falls into the genre of Analog Horror, which is a subgenre of Found Footage horror. TV Tropes defines Analog horror videos as being “almost always less than 10 minutes long and take the form of TV broadcasts, VHS tapes, radio broadcasts, or anything similar. They typically start out mundane and get progressively weirder/scarier.”
I’m a big fan.
I’ve always loved the Cosmic horror of Lovecraft and Ligotti, and this is a refreshing medium for the genre. There’s just something about taking that 80s/90s nostalgia and adding some eerie/disturbing content to that comfortable feeling.
If you want to check out more of the Cosmic Analog Horror, check out Gemini Home Entertainment on Youtube.

I thought I’d just share with you all something that’s been entertaining me as of late. I hope you’re enjoying the content so far, and don’t forget to Subscribe to my Blog and check back every day for new stuff!
Anyways, I think I’ll just take a Thalasin+ and call it a night.
